Evoke Aukland, New Zealand
|
BIOKelly Phillip Dean, male, born auckland in 1978, of celtic and maori descent.
i grew up in the city till age 14 then got packed off to dairy farm life in rural northland.
came back to ak to study physics at uni, hated it and went to the gold coast to surf before coming back and gaining qualifications in design, multimedia and apprenticed in a disney subsidary animation studio.
worked in animation 18 months before flying south to escape city life and ride mountains...
travelling the country and working a range of positions has taught me to look at life from different perspectives and given me insight for my artwork.
Currently i'm working part time in cafe to keep the bills locked and painting canvasses between bursts of vandalism.

| Were Fantastic, So how are things? |
| Yeah good, I have been pretty busy lately but things have been pretty good. |
| |
| What do you do for fun (besides grafiti)? |
|
spent time chilling, learning bob marley tunes on the guitair and meditating.
now i'm blissed out and back at work a bit more focussed on my art, which is....
cartoon and graffiti inspired with a psychadelic twist. i'm into graphic stuff that's edgey, which flows and can be applied to home decorr, clothes, digital media and the street... |
| |
| What inspires you? |
|
when i'm not cooking eggs bene's or painting i love to doodle, slide snow, go skating or surf. a little bit of rhyming at parties and recording on mates tracks...all interpersed with a soundtrack of dope kiwi beats, drum n bass, dub and hip hop.
so being out and about in the world, good music, meeting cool people, and connecting with Nature is what inspires me to make art that comes from the soul... |
| |
| Where do you see yourself in 5 years? |
|
in the next five years i'm looking to secure some land in enzee, to protect and preserve our laid back way of life, planning and developing eco-centres, self sustainable housing and creating more balance with time to keep painting, bone carving and surfing.

| Where do you live? |
| today; i'm living in Ohakune, which is a chill little ski town smack bang in the centre of North Island, New Zealand. As far from the sea you can get, which is like a two hour drive to the nearest fickle surf spot. working part time in the Fat Pigeon Cafe. serving dope meals and atomic coffee...
Hoping to check out Melbourne in the immediate future. anyone out there got jobs/beds?... |
| |
| What are your thoughts on street art? |
| Street art is all good. It's a good place to discover emerging artists, and put out messages at a grass roots level. |
| |
| where do you want your passion for art to take you? |
|
My passion for art, and creating is already leading me on the path of self discovery, awakening and finding my soul mates, so i hope to someday be able to put my feet up and take it all in and say, yep that was all good ay. maybe raising a mini me... who knows what the future holds Right |
